Ion Track’s revolutionary new walk-through
vapour and particle detection portal rapidly examines individuals for
concealed contraband in a non-intrusive manner.
The EntryScan3 utilizes the same patented Ion Trap Mobility Spectrometer (ITMS®)
technology found in ITI’s ITEMISER@ and VaporTracer®. Microscopic traces of
C4, nitro-glycerine, PETN, RDX, Semtex and TNT can be easily detected and
identified. In addition, cocaine, heroin, marijuana and MDMA (ecstasy) can
also be effortlessly detected and identified in a non-intrusive manner.
The EntryScan3 automatically signals each person — by means of a
programmable visual indicator — to enter the portal. Once in the portal,
vapours and particles from the person are collected from the natural flow of
air generated by the individual’s body heat. This collected air sample is
rapidly analyzed in the detection system for the presence of explosives or
narcotics.
The collector mechanism consists of a highly efficient, single-stage
pre-concentrator that traps vapour and particles from the sample and then
desorbs them into the detection system, where they are selectively analyzed
by the ITMS detector. This new technology provides up to 100 times more
sensitivity than previous detectors.
Upon completion of the detection cycle, the EntryScan3 signals the person to
exit. If the individual should leave the portal before the cycle is
completed, an alarm will sound.
The EntryScan3 presents simplified controls and indicators to enable easy
operation and monitoring of the system. In addition, it contains
self-diagnostics and indicators to facilitate routine maintenance. The
onboard computer provides complete data logging capability and is able to be
networked for remote display and data acquisition.

Next generation ITEMISER features breakthrough technology enhancing
detection capability of explosives and narcotics
Ion Track Instruments’ (ITI) next generation ITEMISER3 desktop contraband
detection and identification system is the first trace detector in the world
to simultaneously detect traces of both explosives and narcotics on people,
baggage, cargo, vehicles, containers, tickets and identification cards.
ITI’s Ion Trap Mobility Spectrometry (ITMS®), which had already surpassed
conventional Ion Mobility spectrometers (IMS) in ionization efficiency and
sensitivity due to its patented ion trap, has now been further enhanced by
adding high-speed switching technology that allows identification of
time-of-flight peaks for substances in both positive and negative ion modes.
Unlike Ion Track Instruments’ patented ITMS detectors, conventional MS
detectors are restricted to operating in only one mode per sample — making
screening for explosives and narcotics with one instrument a complex and
time consuming process.
By simultaneously monitoring both positive and negative ion modes for all
substances, the detection capability of ITEMISER3 is significantly expanded
since some explosives are better detected in narcotics mode (positive ions)
and some narcotics are better detected in explosives mode (negative ions).
Extensive use of the latest computer technology and ITI proprietary software
in the design of ITEMISER3 has produced an instrument that requires no user
intervention or interpretation. Consequently, operators can concentrate on
obtaining good trace samples of explosives or narcotics. An operator need
only sample the surface of an item that is suspected of being contaminated
with traces of explosives or narcotics and insert the “sample trap” in the
slot located in the front of the instrument to trigger analysis.
An average response time takes 4-10 seconds per sample.

VaporTracer2 combines superb trace particle detection with
unique multi-mode vapour sampling for unsurpassed detection capability
The VaporTracer2 Portable Contraband Detector is the latest technology
available for detecting explosives and narcotics. Based on Ion Track
Instruments’ patented Ion Trap Mobility Spectrometer (ITMS®), the
VaporTracer2 is designed to be used in demanding security environments where
fast and accurate analysis is essential.
Significant improvements to the VaporTracer have enhanced the detector‘s
capabilities and raised the performance standard for handheld trace
detectors.
Key to the VaporTracer2’s evolution is a pre-concentrator nozzle that fits
on the end of the detector, which not only further improves vapour detection
but also allows for superb trace particle detection.
The VaporTracer was originally developed and tested with support from the
U.S. Department of Defence Counter-Drug Technology Development program,
acting on behalf of a consortium of U.S. government agencies including the
U.S. Customs Service, the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Federal Aviation
Administration and the President‘s Office of National Drug Control Policy.
The VaporTracer2 easily adapts to different detection scenarios. Each
application, as well as every contraband substance, has an optimum sample
collection procedure.
Heroin, marijuana and PETN, for example, are detected much better by means
of particle sampling (wiping a surface to collect particles of a substance).
Dynamite, nitro-glycerine and meth-amphetamine, conversely, have a better
chance of being detected by sampling the vapour emitting from the cracks or
small openings of a container or vehicle in which they are packed.
